Toronto K9 Center Our Story
Director – Dog Trainer
Roger Richards, who emigrated from his native Trinidad and Tobago in 1988, began working with dogs at the age of 15 specializing in Obedience and Personal Protection dog training. He founded Toronto K9 Center in 1988 and has slowly built a stellar reputation for quality service, and animals that remain well-balanced and manageable throughout their lifetime.
World Class Dog Trainer, Consumate Pigeon Breeder, Award Winning Racing Pigeons, and Father
With almost 40 years of training experience, Roger is the head trainer at the Toronto K9 Center. He works with an Assistant Trainer for a hands-on, one-on-one program designed for greater customer satisfaction. “Don’t just look for a cute pet. Learn a little about the personality and traits of particular breeds. Stability has to do with the nervous system of the dog. Selection is very important for an animal you would have around your children. We have to remember that a dog is an animal and there is that degree of unpredictability. It is our business to minimize and even eliminate that unpredictability with a behavioral structure that the dog learns to trust. But that also means that the family must know and understand the rationale for the structure in order to maintain it.
The second area of overriding interest for Roger is the sport of competitive “racing pigeons” and that for Roger is “pure pleasure!” Racing pigeons have been a life long passion. Roger loves his birds, knows their needs, supplies these needs 24/7 365 days per year.

Michaels expertise covers all dog breeds and it is interesting to note that Michael was a “Canadian Paws Member” that was responsible for the training and educating of “dog doctors” who in turn volunteered their time in regularly visiting the elderly and patients in long term care and hospital settings. In Hong Kong Michael trained patrol dogs at the “Sun Hung Kai Villa” Sun Hung Kai Properties is one of the largest property companies in Hong Kong that specialized in developing premium quality residential projects as well as shopping malls, offices, and hotels. In Shanghai, Michael founded a specialized K9 center to train very special dogs including Tibetan Mastiffs, South African Boerboels, Japanese Akita’s, and American Akita’s. Michael advises that this group of dogs is fearless and courageous when threatened. They require specialized training and firm handling from an early age. This group of dogs also requires a significant commitment in time and energy as they need to be expertly trained and properly socialized to be happy, reliable, and most of all well-adjusted family members. Whatever breed, whatever the need, whatever the circumstances Michael Wong has the experience, the knowledge, the commitment and the real life insights to provide the right approach or answer to your unique situation and needs.
Dog & Cat Groomer
Natasha had a calling from a very young age and volunteered at animal hospitals and shelters from the age of 13. Certified since 2000 grooming is more than an occupation, it is a passion, even more, a way of life.
Professional Dog and Cat Groomer, and Mother
Natasha is well-read with an incredible depth to not only grooming but just as important nutrition and overall health of her varied clientele. She is, and rightfully so, a huge proponent of “ you are what you eat”. As important as it rightfully is, grooming is truly multifaceted, you must groom a dog/cat on the outside however if you truly want your pet to shine you must also groom him on the inside. To this critical end, Natasha is a huge advocate of holistic and raw feeding. Nothing improves on nature and the closer to nature we are the more your companion will shine. Reach out to Natasha, for expert advice on any topic, after all, she is considered highly and much sought-after as a Master groomer of dogs and cats of all breeds.
It takes a very special, very dedicated, very focused, very brave, and certainly very agile and fearless person to fill the position of “Agitator/Trainer”. Jordan has been a key player on our team since 2014.
This key position is not for the timid, nor weak of heart. Protection/guardian dogs are specially selected then carefully trained for police, military, or personal protection careers. This specialty training is referred to as “Agitation and Bite Training”. Lunge and bite the “Agitator” must agitate the dog/dogs being trained to get them to lunge at and forcefully bite the sleeve of the agitator ( or bad guy). Jordan has gained invaluable experience and skill under the direction and guidance of Roger Richards the director of TorontoK9 Training center. Jordan has decoyed for many high profile dogs that were educated at our training center. Jordan has a knack for bringing out the very best ( confidence/intelligence/courage/determination/fearlessness and incredible bite and hold instincts in this select group of dogs.
