Professionally Trained Protection Dogs

Protection Dog training serving Toronto, Ajax, Whitby, Brooklin, Pickering, Oshawa, Hamilton, Brampton & GTA. A professionally trained dog from Toronto K9 Center will be a companion, an alarm, a deterrent and a defender at all times. These dogs will be loving, obedient, well behaved, easy to handle and always ready to defend you, your family home or business.

The ideal Personal Protection dog is a sociable animal that does not show aggression indiscriminately nor attack unprovoked. There is a big misconception that a dog trained in Personal Protection will attack any and every thing. This is furthest from the truth! With this being said, there are many dogs represented as Personal Protection trained dogs…but are not.

Dog Selection – Socializing

Before any dog is trained in Personal Protection an evaluation for stability will first be taken. Any dog that has an unstable temperament will be rejected from the course. We maintain that an unstable dog trained in personal protection is a liability.

Not every German Sheppard, Rottweiler, Doberman, or other breeds of the working class group are capable of Personal Protection training. Correct socializing, solid nerves, and the necessary drives must be pronounced. The ideal candidate is a secure, sociable, thinking dog, trustworthy in any situation, that can be relied on, if threatened, to respond correctly. Don’t be misled.

Any dog trained or sold as a “personal protection dog” from Toronto K9 Center must meet the bottom line question of “would we want this dog in our house with our children”.

Proper Training

A personal protection dog undergoes entirely different training than a schutzhund or a sport dog. My hat is off to the sport dogs and their trainers, but it is a false sense of security that these dogs would come through in a real life situation. We are NOT sport dog trainers. We play for real, where the stakes are high, and sometimes a loss just cannot be recovered. What is your peace of mind and security worth?

Don’t be a victim to cut-corner training, or merely aggressive out of control dogs being represented as “trained”. Investigate before you invest.

Providing Protection Dogs

We are able to provide German Shepherds, Rottweilers, and Pitbull’s from kennels that believe in our philosophy and approve of our methods. These kennels, with over 30 years combined experience and dedication to working lines breeding, are known throughout North America, and sell regularly to high profile personalities, police departments, competitive sport or obedience enthusiasts, and specialized performance requirements, such as Search and Rescue and Bomb/Narcotic detection. All dogs are from proven working lines and are fully guaranteed.

Every pup is socialized to a wide variety of situations and environments and is evaluated for aptitude and temperament before entering the Toronto K9 Center’s training program. These specially selected dogs are then trained to meet our high standards and to exhibit the desired qualities of courage and control.

Protection Training Levels

Level 1 – Deterrent Dog

The level 1 dog is trained to show an aggressive display on command.  This dog will lunge, show teeth and bark aggressively at the end of the leash towards any aggressor who tries to approach once his “protect” command is given.  Weapons, yelling, or other forms of intimidation will not cause this dog to back down.  Although this dog will most likely bite if an aggressor physically challenged the dog, the level 1 dog is not specifically trained how to most effectively fight aggressors as is a level 2 dog.  The level 1 dog’s main purpose is as a deterrent (which is usually enough for most situations).  Minimum 4 weeks in-kennel program.

Level 2 – Defense Dog

The level 2 dog will show the same aggressive display as the level 1 dog on command.  This dog has been trained, on leash, how to most effectively win a fight with aggressors who physically challenge it.  The dog is trained to use the bone crushing power of the back of its jaw by biting deep, instead of with just the front of its mouth.  The dog has also been trained to counter any attempt by an aggressor who strikes or tries to beat off the dog, by biting deeper and harder or shaking the part of the body held in the mouth.  The dog is trained to release its bite on command.  Minimum 4 week in-kennel program.

Level 3 – Offence Dog

The level 3 dog has all the training of the level 2 dog, but has the option of being able to be deployed off leash to pursue and capture a fleeing person or a threat from a distance.  The “offense dog” is trained to use its body to knock down and hold onto a challenger even while wearing a muzzle.  This dog will also release its bite on command

Our level 3 offense type of dog training is geared for the security K-9s.

Insight

Our trainers have an exceptional intuition and true gift with dogs. At Toronto K9 Center we have always known that trainers must have the affinity and an internal guidance for dogs as well as the love of people.  The director of the company, Roger Richards has been heard to say that sometimes its harder to train the dog owner than the dog, but with the right techniques and motivation, he has not met one that he couldn’t help.
